sawtelleI just finished reading The Story of Edgar Sawtelle

Yes, it was one of the Oprah books, but that is not why I read it.  Mom said it was good and she usually is a good judge of books so I rented it from the library.  I rent all my books from the library, much more economical in this economy and I am not left wondering what to do with a finished hardcover.

Anyway, the book is based many years ago on a farm in Wisconsin.  The history of the family based in the book is given  This is a family who breeds and trains dogs.  You are then introduced to Edgar.  Edgar was born unable to speak.  But Edgar has a special gift about him and a special relationship to the dogs.   The story explains the youth of Edgar and the changes in his family.  I will not give the entire story away because I am sure some people have not yet read the book and don’t want to ruin it for anyone.

The book is very long and very good.  But the ending was horrible.  It just left you there.  Not knowing what happens next.  Will there be another book?  Will there be a movie? (I hope so!)  So be warned, if you do not like that type of book ending, it will leave you feeling disappointed.

So my 10 year old daughter has caught the online video bug and has started filming quick shows with her best friend Jordan.  We have set her up a video blog on WordPress and they plan on updating them weekly.  It is scary how naturally this comes for my daughter.  She should definately go into acting!

Anyway, the site is www.thelolgirls.wordpress.com for those who might be interested.  She believes she is going to get famous doing this, like iCarly, who is, of course, a fictional character.

NYC skyline_edited-1On Saturday of last week we took a quick trip into New York City.  We live in NJ and the trips to NYC shouldn’t be so far apart.  But alas, being so close, we hardly ever go.  Our family had a celebration at a small italian restaurant in Manhattan, so a small bus was chartered for the NJ part of the family.  Our children are getting older so we do not see our family quite so often, so the trip was full of family updates and reminiscing!

Once we went through the Holland Tunnel, all eyes were on the city.  We all live in the suburbs, so city life is fascinating to us.  The shops right on top of eachother, the street festivals, the varied public milling around….

The meal was quite enjoyable at a restaurant called Domenico’s.  The volume of the crowd became quite loud, as people from NJ/NY do!

Recently ran across a new blog written by one of the writers for Saturday Night Live.  Some funny stuff worth two seconds of your time.
