Signs of Summer 09_edited-2

cell_stephenkingRecently finished Cell by Stephen King.  One afternoon everyone who is listening to a cell phone goes homicidal.  Nutty.  Then they become zombies.  Those who are not partaking of the cell phenomenom (or just forgot their cell that day) must fight for their lives.  The zombies try to get the non-phoners converted into zombies.  Non-phoners have to figure out a way to get the humans back.  Way creepy.  Makes me think twice before I answer my calls.  Especially at 3:03 pm.

Just a few of my favorite things.  Finally did a page on it.  my favorites-2009

It is very hard to handle when your child is faced with disappoinment and hurt and there is nothing you can do to change it.  It is a lesson they need to learn as we all have.

My daughter signed up to perform with a friend at the school talent show.  This is something I never would have done, myself.  I could be part of a cast in a play but standing up there alone or with a partner for all too see (or boo as they see fit,) I just couldn’t do it.

The girls were going to perform a dance number.  I, honestly, thought that the girls would grow bored of it and not follow through, but they actually practiced together and were quite excited about the end result.

A dress rehearsal was required the day before the show and my daughter’s partner did not show.  Since my daughter had signed up to be with a partner, and her partner didnt show for practice, they were not allowed to perform in the show.  I think this is pretty harsh for the 4th grade, but I do not make the rules.  I just have to handle the repercussions.  She was quite angry and hurt, but I used my motherly skills and distracted her with a shopping trip for summer clothes.  But let me tell you, I would love to go bop that kid in the head!!

So anyway, my daughter was quite disappointed when her friend “bailed” on her.

I feel so bad.  I have not posted here since February?!  Wow.   Thats a long time.

As you can tell from my title, I have discovered Facebook.  It is extremely addicting and very fun.  I have reconnected with relatives I have not seen in 30+ years and people I went to grade school with!   That is a lot of people!!  Parts of my family that I thought were lost forever have been happily found and we now keep up a regular dialogue.   Family histories that have been missed can be seen through pictures that have been uploaded.

Some find it quite dangerous to use given the state of computer crime these days, but I believe that if you take the proper steps you can remain safe while FB’ing.  I recommend it to everyone looking to find lost friends and families or just to refresh connections you already have!

Twilight

Twilight

Ever since Anne Rice delivered us into the world of the vampire I have enjoyed reading these kinds of tales.  There have been many attempts by other authors to repeat her fame with poor results.  Given this, I was lured by the Twilight series by Stephanie Meyer.   The movie trailers looked tantalizing, but I hate to see a movie first, knowing that you cannot get the full detail of the book in the condensed version of a movie.

The first book in the series, focuses on an misfit teenage girl looking to relocate and live with her father in gloomy Washington State.  Upon starting school in Forks, WA she quickly becomes popular as this is a small town and the new girl would be an excitement.   She is intrigued by a set of pale teenagers from the Cullen family.  Edward Cullen soon saves her life and she becomes ensnared into the life of the vampire.  The teens have discovered that they are soulmates and meant to be together.  This starts a life of excitement and danger within this small dark town.

The book is meant to be for the young adult scene.  I can understand why millions of young teenage girls are swooning over these stories.   It is very seductive and dangerous, while still being meant for the junior age (i.e. no sex.)  I enjoyed the book and went on the read the second book in the series which introduced werewolves into the mix.  I found the second book to be even more enthralling.   I plan on reading the remaining two books in the series and look forward to the publication of the 5th book.    Only then will I consider renting the movie, lol!

P.S. I finished all of the books and loved them.  Loved the movie, though it is a bit simple.  Cannot wait for the second movie to come out in November 2009.  My daughter and I have become quite the Twi-fanatics!

tinkerbellMy daughter and I watched the video of “Tinkerbell – the movie” on DVD on Monday night.  It was quite delightful.  It showed the creation of the fairy named Bell and her growing into her quirky self.  It seems a fairy is born after the first laugth of a baby.  It even showed the eventual link to London and the Peter Pan connection.  The movie was a great example of not trying to be like everyone else and being happy with what you are best at.  It is a perfect mother-daughter move.  There is another Tink movie in the works and I can’t wait to share it with my daughter.

Now the average friend of mine would think I was biased, given that I am obsessed with Tinkerbell.  But I can honestly say it was a delightful movie for young girls.
